Alan is a Venture Capitalist who co-founded VantagePoint Venture Partners in 1995 and serves as CEO, Managing Partner and Chair of the Investment Committee. As a leading venture investor for over 30 years, Alan has had hands-on involvement in more than 500 start-up companies and has held overall management responsibilities for a dozen venture funds with over $5 billion of committed capital.
As CEO of VantagePoint, he oversees the investment team, a portfolio of groundbreaking companies and strategic partnerships with a large number of leading corporations. Alan was a pioneer in investing in CleanTech and was lead investor in such notable companies as Tesla, Liquid Robotics, Goldwind, Solar Century, BrightSource Energy and Amprius.
Mr. Salzman is a frequent contributor and speaker on energy innovation and efficiency, entrepreneurship and global competitiveness. He has served as Finance Chair of the World Business Summit on Climate Change, on the BP Alternative Energy Advisory Board, on the Leadership Council of the Climate Group, a Member of the World Economic Forum and on the Board of Directors of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. He is a graduate (GC, BA, JD, LLM) of the London School of Economics, the University of Toronto, Stanford Law School and the Vreije Universiteit Brussel and held a decade-long faculty appointment as Adjunct Professor of Venture Capital and Start-up Companies at Stanford Law School.
Mr. Salzman is also active in philanthropy and he and his wife, Tiara Cameron Salzman, launched the Salzman Library in Windhoek, Namibia to help disadvantaged children with their schooling.
